CONCH REPUBLIC INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION
The 31st Anniversary of the Conch Republic Independence Celebration, a 10-day festival kicks off Friday, April 19, 2013 with the raising of the Conch Republic flag over Fort Zachary Taylor at high noon and concludes Sunday, April 28th with the final Wrecker’s Race. In between it’s all the traditional events that has made this festival one of the most anticipated of the year – Drag Race, Royal Family Investiture, World’s Longest Parade, Bed Race, Conch Crawl and much more at some of the island’s most infamous watering holes. Special highlight of the 2013 festival is the return of the world’s largest marching band, The Awesome Second Time Arounders. Mark your calendar now for the Conch Republic Independence Celebration. Project AWARE & Environmental Film Series at Eco-Discovery Center
Starting at 1 p.m. through, enjoy an afternoon of hourly environmental films, presented by Project AWARE’s Shout Out for Sharks. Films and documentaries include National Geographic and Jean Michel Cousteau, exploring all things sharks. Eco Discovery Center is open at noon, last film begins at 5 p.m. Free admission.
